The relative density of ABS is around 1.05, and it has a low water absorption rate. ABS bonds well with other materials, making it easy to print, coat, and plate on its surface. With an oxygen index of 18 to 20, ABS is a flammable polymer that burns with a yellow flame, produces black smoke, and emits a distinctive cinnamon odor. ABS boasts excellent mechanical properties, with outstanding impact strength that functions well even at very low temperatures; it has excellent wear resistance, good dimensional stability, and oil resistance, suitable for bearings under moderate load and speed. ABS has better creep resistance compared to PSF and PC, but less than PA and POM. However, ABS’s bending strength and compression strength are among the poorer in plastics. Its mechanical properties are significantly affected by temperature.

The thermal deformation temperature of ABS ranges from 93 to 118°C, and can increase by about 10°C after annealing. ABS still exhibits some toughness at -40°C and can be used in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 100°C.

ABS has poor weather resistance and degrades under the influence of ultraviolet light; after six months outdoors, its impact strength can decrease by half.
